Living sites weren’t super welcoming. Lots of dirt. Looks like Nissen Huts just placed on farmland, which was true. Looks very dreary.

Notes: One man sewing button on uniform. Other trying to wash something in a bucket. Not lots of extra space. Kept shoes on. Not homey. Concrete floors very cold. Just tin can separating you from outside.

Notes: Not 44th but good illustrative example. No access to creature comforts so had to get creative. Guys really cared about looking sharp when they were in their uniforms.

Notes: No easy place to take care of personal hygiene. No showers on site 2 for 506 Squadron. For shower had to go to Communal Site 1. Had to shave before missions so oxygen mask would fit to face.

Notes: Thatched roof and hedgerows. Riding in larger groups of men.
